Design Discovery 2018 - Day 5 - Chair Review
Students presented and tested their cardboard chair designs from Day 4. Some chairs were sturdier than others, but all were very good ideas.
Students presented and tested their cardboard chair designs from Day 4. Some chairs were sturdier than others, but all were very good ideas.
On day four, Design Discovery campers were challenged to make a cardboard lounge/table device that supported at least one person from the team as well as perform one other task determined by the group. Students spent the day designing and constructing their chairs.
Students learned about drawing and perspective and then spread out to apply their new skills by drawing different locations inside Giles Hall. They were to focus on the aspect of perspective drawings to capture a 3-dimensional space in a 2-dimensional drawing, and use detail drawings to focus closely on how things are built/constructed.
After sketching initial designs on Day 1, the students now apply their knowledge to build their creations. These “Instant Environments” are made from canvas, twine (hemp and nylon), and locally harvested bamboo.
On Day 1, the campers jumped into modeling and sketching ideas for the Instant Environment Project. This is a good ice-breaker and encourages group interaction.
