Hensley Meilstrup

This is a self portrait series of metaphorical tattoos. The images were photographed then
printed on cold press watercolor paper and then the body art was metaphorically inked onto the
figure using charcoal. There are five separate pieces within the series each representing a different value or trait within the piece. You have: Femininity, Guarded, Faith, Growth, and Seeker. This entire series is taken from the introverted nature of myself as an artist in order to portray who I am without speaking, through the tattoos I would get to embody who I am as an artist and a person.

This monochrome image features a partial profile of a person whose shoulder and arm are decorated with a bold, black-work tattoo design. The tattoo consists of sharp, flowing, tribal-style curves and abstract floral shapes that wrap around the bicep and forearm. The subject’s hand is poised gracefully near their collarbone, highlighting dark fingernails and delicate rings, while their face is partially turned away in a contemplative or guarded pose. This high-contrast, black-and-white illustration features a person with their arms crossed over their face, blending human form with abstract, fluid patterns. The person has dark, wavy hair pulled into a bun and wears several rings on their fingers. Their hands and forearms are adorned with intricate, dark linework resembling stylized floral or organic motifs that seamlessly flow into a background of swirling, ribbon-like shapes.
