Mississippi State University’s Fred Carl Jr. Small Town Center was recently recognized with awards by the Mississippi Main Street Association.
Leah Kemp, director of the Small Town Center, presented an individual award the center sponsored at the Main Street Association’s annual luncheon.
Kemp was also honored with the Sam Kaye Excellence in Design award, which is given to the design professional or firm that exhibits the spirit, compassion and talent of late architect and community leader Sam Kaye.
“It is an honor to be nominated by my peers and clients for this award,” said Kemp. “I have loved working with Starkville and other Mississippi communities to create impactful designs over the years.”
In addition, the Saltillo community received the Outstanding Main Street Plan award for the Small Town Center’s master planning work.
The award narrative said the plan has energized the community and generated early economic activity.
“Saltillo is actively working the plan, proving its practicality, momentum, and long‑term value. This plan stands as a model of innovation, collaboration, and meaningful downtown revitalization.”
