Taking Root Lake Flato: A Practice of Mission-Drive Design
October 19, 2026
Location
Giles Hall McNeel Architecture Gallery
Provided by Lake Flato and MSU SARC Alumnus John Taylor Schaffhauser, Taking Root explores Lake Flato as a practice of mission-driven design, looking beyond finished buildings to the relationships, ideas, and processes that allow meaningful work to take shape. The exhibition brings together projects across different scales, places, and forms of practice, from public landscapes and conservation work to international partnerships and innovations in climate and material performance. Together, the projects reveal a practice rooted in place, collaboration, environmental stewardship, and long-term commitment. Taking Root offers a glimpse behind the finished architecture and asks how a project, a relationship, or an idea can grow into something larger over time.
