Open January 19 through February 17, 2024 in the Visual Arts Center Gallery, Ty Smith: For Me, and for You is an exhibition of recent drawings and paintings by Alabama artist Ty Smith.

Since 2014, Ty Smith has served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham, AL. He earned his MFA from the School of Art and Art History, University of Tulsa, Tulsa, OK and his BFA from Department of Art and Art History, University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, AL. Smith's work has shown in over 30 group exhibitions and For Me, and for You is his tenth solo exhibition. You can view more of Smith's artwork on his website tysmith.com.

Visitors to the exhibition will see over 20 drawings and paintings made from combined media such as charcoal and oil on canvas and charcoal and ink on paper. At first glance, the vertical marks used in many of the pieces appear non-objective, free from reference, but with closer reflection one may see similarities to trees and forests with curving branches reaching upwards.

A public reception with refreshments is planned for Thursday, January 25, 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the Visual Arts Center Gallery.

The Visual Arts Center Gallery is free and open regular hours, Monday through Friday, 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
