- Hi, I'm Austin Grove. I recently graduated from MSU with a degree in art, concentration in graphic design. And last summer I had the opportunity to go to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and do an internship there for the summer. And the classes at MSU really did a great, great job of preparing me for that internship. My Graphic Design I, Graphic Design II, Type I classes really prepared me for knowing a language and a lingo, knowing the basic skills. And then Design I, Drawing I really did a good job of preparing me, knowing color theory and kind of how to create hierarchy. And so those were essential for getting along well there. My professors did a great job of preparing me too. They always do a great job in critique of pointing you in the direction, but not giving you really explicit kind of step-by-step instructions of how to make your projects better, but they really kind of tell you how to find it on your own and how to get to the solution your own, which I think is really important. When I came to my internship and I had to listen to the criticism of my creative director and my bosses, they weren't gonna tell me what to do, but they expected me to be able to solve the problems on my own. So that was really helpful to kind of have that sort of way of working already instilled through my professors. I found my internship frantically Googling at sort of the 11th hour, and ended up finding this opportunity on SFMOMA's website and luckily got professors and people to help me at the last minute by writing some recommendation letters and giving me some advice. So I was very thankful it worked out. Loved MSU. Work hard.
