1B: First-Year Studio

ARC 1546 | Spring semester

Introduction to creative process, design principles and methods. Design projects emphasize verbal and visual communication; observing, analyzing, representing, and making of form, space, materials.  Independent investigation and presentation of an approved research topic.

2020 Pop-up Pavilion Project

Working in teams, students started their design process by designing components at the micro level and recognizing architectural patterns. Then, they transitioned those patterns into surfaces and structures focusing on assemblies and human experience using cardboard as the primary material.

2020 Emmett Till Interpretive Center Design Project

Through a spring 2020 semester partnership with the Emmett Till Memorial Commission, the students produced design proposals for a Till memorial at the Graball Landing site.
