The American Institute of Architecture Students
American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) is the student branch of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). AIAS is the largest architecture student organization in the world with over 150 chapters. The S|ARC chapter is apart of the South Quad, which has 53 chapters. We sponsor many professional, social, and service events throughout the year including the Beaux Arts Ball. Our chapter also has Freedom By Design (FBD), which is dedicated to serving our local community. This year the FBD team will be designing, fundraising, and constructing compost bins for the local Boys and Girls Club. Many members of the S|ARC AIAS chapter have held national AIAS Office. Students belonging to AIAS are encouraged to attend national conferences like Forum, Grassroots, and South Quad. Alpha Rho Chi (APX)
Alpha Rho Chi is the only national co-ed professional fraternity for architecture and the allied arts. Mississippi State's Hippodamus chapter was formed in the fall of 2010 and has expanded since then to include students from architecture, landscape architecture, graphic design, engineering, English, and more. The “Hippos" actively work together to host a series of professional events every spring, fundraising events for their philanthropy throughout the year, brotherhood events for chapter bonding, a White Rose Formal each fall, and a summer retreat for bonding/business. Recruiting and pledging occur in the beginning of the fall semester, and all students are welcome to join the family. Active members are encouraged to attend the national convention every spring to meet students from other architecture schools and professionals in the field who also devote their time to keeping the organization running and expanding. Many from the chapter have gone on to receive national awards, hold national office, or have benefited from networking with the national fraternity by getting jobs or housing, among other things.
