SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE
Organizations
From the School’s inception, there has been consistent interaction between faculty, students, and a variety of student and professional organizations. For example, a faculty member has served as President of the MS American Institute of Architects (AIA), three students have served as national American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) directors, and two were elected national vice-president. In addition to student activity at the national level, AIAS students participate in a variety of campus related activities that range from mounting exhibits to planning a Beaux-Arts Ball. The MSU chapter was also been named national co-chapter of the year in 1997-98. The S/ARC chapter of the Tau Sigma Delta national architecture honor society sponsors a student-run lecture series on Fridays at noon that includes a student-prepared lunch. The National Organization of Minority Architecture Students (NOMAS) co-host a lecture each spring that focuses on issues of diversity in architecture and the built-environment. S/ARC students have also held elected positions in the University's Student Senate, regularly play in the marching band, are active in fraternity and sororities, and have participated in scholarship athletics.
