Art 3233 | Studio Lighting

Studio Lighting is an introduction to the professional studio lighting techniques.

Below are descriptions of some of the assignments in the course with student work examples.


Creative Project #1

Directions: For the first creative project you will make five photographic portraits in the lighting studio. You have the option of choosing to complete one of the following themes: #1 Emotional Truth, #2Persona, or #3 Self-Identity.

Creative Project #2

Directions: For the second creative project you will make a series of three photographs using objects. You have the option of choosing to complete one of the following themes listed below. In doing so, you will create three unique images with three unique lighting designs using the lights available to you in the lighting studio.

Final Project

Directions: For the final project in this class you will make a series of 6 photographs in which you will usethe lighting studio. The theme for this project will be self-proposed.

This project is designed for you to craft your own lighting designs and to demonstrate the skillsyou learned in Technical Projects #1 - #5. In doing so, you will demonstrate a working knowledgeof what you learned up to this point in the class.

Since this is a creative project, you will consider the relationship between form (lighting designs,aesthetics, and compositional choices) and content (the concept for your project) to helpcommunicate a unique vision for the project. Please see the grading rubric below for the criteria -you will be graded on creativity, evidence of experimentation, and technique.
