Larry Barrow completed the Doctor of Design degree at Harvard Design School (HDS) in 2001 where he wrote his doctorate dissertation"Cybernetic Architecture - Process and Form - The Impact of Information Technology." He is Director of the Digital Research and Imaging Lab (DRIL) and Graduate Program (GP) at Mississippi State University's (MSU) College of Architecture (CAAD).
Larry is an award winning designer who has practiced architecture for twenty five years. His diverse career has been an odyssey of experimentation that includes a 10 year period of design-develop-build. His diverse knowledge and practice base is the underpinning to his current research and pedagogy that focuses on the impact of information technology on design and "making" (i.e. design-build-manufacture) with the goal of creating innovative products and transformative architecture.
Larry directs the Design Research & Informatics Lab (DRIL) that is comprised of a design and technology group of architects, industrial designers and technology experts that are internationally recognized for process and product innovations in the fields of architecture, product design and furniture design. The DRIL focuses on technology transfer from manufacturing industries into housing, products and informatics devices/systems with the goal of assisting economic development in Mississippi.
Larry directs the internationally recognized multi-disciplinary Graduate Program which offers post-professional education to architects, product designers, interior designers, landscape architects, engineers, artists and builders. The primary mission of the program is to assist each student by enhancing their passion and talents for pursuit of leadership in their chosen field of academic inquiry and/or practice. The program aspires to educate students who will contribute to the betterment of architecture at the local, national and global scale.
