Obsessive Consumption Redesign
Posted: February 24, 2008

Hi, Obsessive Consumption is me, Kate Bingaman-Burt.

I make work about personal consumption.

This is the page that leads you to other pages. Please click on the color links and enjoy.

Follow my daily purchase drawings, read about show updates and see works in progress over at my blog: What Did you Buy Today? Check out some other work:  Drawings, Installations, Photography and Works in Progress.

Oh, and if you want to buy some zines, prints or drawings, check out my shop!

I have some events/shows going on/coming up and/or just recently happened. I just got back from Maine College of Art where I conducted a zine workshop and had crits with the cool kids. I will be doing the same later this spring at the University of Georgia and Missouri State University.

Current/Recent group shows: Poketo First Editions Print Show, The Dotted Line at the PRIC Rotunda Gallery, AD|AGENCY at the Boston Photographic Resource Center, Products of Our Time at The Goldstein Museum in Minneapolis.
I just had a solo show at Rare Device in San Francisco (pictures!) and in September I made my NYC solo debut at Jen Bekman. Here are some pictures! Jen also represents me.

Right now you can catch my work or writings about my work in The New York Times, Print Magazine, Adorn Magazine, Handjob!: A Catalog of Type, Lodown 55, The Artist's Guide to Making Money, Crafter Culture Handbook, How Magazine and Becoming a Digital Designer. Netdiver included Obsessive Consumption on their Best of the Year/2006 list as well and Coudal Partners has always been very good to me. You may also listen to me say "you know and like a lot" on Weekend America.

I also do other things than make artwork about my mundane purchases. really.

I am an assistant professor in Graphic Design at Mississippi State University and have been for the past three years. Check out my class design blog Crap Detector.

I have had my illustrations published in and/or by The New York Times, Poketo, 20x200 and I have been working on illustrations for the companion book to the documentary Handmade Nation. If you want me to make some drawings for you, just give a shout!

My husband and I have started a non-profit called The Public Design Center. The PDC (as I like to call it), is a graphic design resource center. Right now I am working on creating a zine and design library for anyone to visit. Pretty.Damn. Cool.

If you want, you may add me on Flickr, Virb, Facebook, del.ici.ous, Twitter and Last.Fm. Myspace is ugly.

Drop me a line if you just want to say hi or if you want to buy any of my work or if you want Obsessive Consumption products in your handsome gallery space or lovely boutique.
