saturday - 24th
The campers came in just under the wire today and finished the big project: a walkable cardboard bridge. We're all proud of the amount of work they put in this week to get everything done, and they should be too.
That's it, though, for Building Bridges 2006, so tune in next summer for another round of intense design and sheer cardboard craziness.
friday - 23th
The bridge took shape today as the campers scrambled to finish their project before parents arrive tomorrow morning to see what all the fuss is about. We're all crossing our fingers...
thursday - 22th
Campers set to work today building what will be a full-size, walkable cardboard bridge that, hopefully, will hold their parents... Only time will tell. The campers also learned from premiere furniture designer, sculpter, and teacher Critz Campbell the road towards self-sustainability in the art world.
wednesday - 21th
Today, campers toured graphic designer and teacher Kate Bingaman's art studio and toured the Interior Design quarters before returning to the Architecture building to work through iterations and iterations of bridge designs in a search for the perfect full-scale, cardboard bridge. After all, their bridge will carry precious cargo on Saturday.
tuesday - 20th
Today marked the start of campers' studies of structure and support as they designed, built, and tested cardboard models of bridges built to withstand stacks of bricks. Hopefully their new knowledge will help them with bigger projects.
monday - 19th
Today, campers received a crash-course in perspective and architectural detail while drawing in the Chapel of Memories' courtyard. Then, they learned the basics of cardboard construction, measuring, painting, and other artistic activities in an intense round-robin session designed to propel them through the week.
sunday - 18th
Camp Two has arrived! This week's campers have big shoes to fill after last week, but with a little effort, they have the making of a great team. Tonight, they worked out the design of the Camp Two t-shirt that will be given out at the end of the week.
