Assistant or Associate Professor of Architecture
The School of Architecture seeks candidates for 3 tenure-track positions, at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, to teach in the design studios beginning Fall 2013. The candidate is also expected to have an expertise in one of the following areas: building technologies/construction; digital design; or sustainable design. Long characterized by pedagogy that emphasizes the experience and making of architecture, the School looks for faculty who can capitalize on its strengths and encourage its further development. Recently incorporated into a new College of Architecture, Art and Design (including Building Construction Science), the School offers unique opportunities for innovative teaching, creative research, and substantive interdisciplinary collaboration. The architectural inquiry of both faculty and students is grounded in the cultural, the phenomenal, and the material world; we engage the diversity of the people and communities around us, the sensuous qualities of architecture, and the physical realities of: materiality, construction technology, and ecology. The faculty is proactive and collegial. We address issues collaboratively and are able to effect change quickly. Collectively, the School of Architecture is committed to contemporary issues in the profession, seeing architectural practice as research, and teaching students to creatively address (in a regenerative way) the challenges facing the built environment in the 21st century.
The successful candidate(s) will be expected to teach in various levels of architectural design studios, and in one of the areas noted above, and to engage in scholarly research.
A professional architectural degree and related master's degree in architecture is required; professional registration or PhD is preferred.
Review of candidates will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled. Level of appointment and salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
