On Wednesday, January 24th, all of those who are interested are invited to gather in Giles Architecture building/Fazio Jury Room/122 at 7:00 PM to see and hear more about the trip/ask questions/bring parents and friends.
ALL STUDENTS PLANNING ON ENROLLING MUST COMMUNICATE A COMMITMENT BY FRIDAY, JANUARY 26!
Courses:
1. "Sketchbook Journal for Art and Design"Taught by art professor Brent Funderburk, students will confront and engage the "Grand Tour" of the world's most overstimulating cultural environment. Visual response in the form of drawing in pencil/ink, watercolor, writing, and photography will profoundly impact, enlarge and mature the visualization skills of the artist/designer/architect.
2. "Bookmaking/Artist's Book for Art and Design"Taught by art professor Jamie Runnells, students will learn creative bookmaking amid the dynamic explosion of expression that artist's books have become in contemporary art and design. From weeks of sketchbook journaling, visual discoveries will be transformed into significant formal works of representative power- beautiful, personal presentation objects that evoke, in a compact form, the whole of the astonishing journey in Italy/Europe.
The trip cost will include:
*Housing and studio space in Vicenza, Italy
*Meals in Vicenza (Monday-Friday/two a day)
*Travel and hotels for scheduled trips to Venice, Verona, Paova, Milan, and one day/two da tours of Villas and Architecture in northen Italy
*Tour guides
*Admission to all scheduled sites
*Six hours course credit at MSU/tuition
Of Special Note:
Venice, pehaps the most beautiful city in the world, is one hour away from our base in Vicenza. The 2007 "Venice Biennale" is the largest art exhibition in the world, and will be held in June during our visit! Countries from around the world will present their finest contemporary art in their own pavilions. (As if Italy and its history and culture were not enough!)
Several three day weekends will allow student groups to travel to Rome, the Alps, Switzerland, France, and beyond. (One group trekked to Scotland on our last trip!)
The University of Florida has created the best possible accomodations and amenities for U.S. students in Vicenza. A safe, friendy, comfortable base has been established there over the last decade.
