A Day in the Life

Usually I wake up and don't even think about breakfast because I try and leave just enough time to get ready and get to class so I can get enough sleep. So shower and throw on comfy clothes for long days in the studio and errands in town. Depending on the day, it's easy to go from 10 to 4 with just two studios and only a one hour break for lunch in between. On other days, it's usually mixed with studios and required classes or electives with maybe (maybe) a lunch break at some point. Studio classes that meet just twice a week are about 3 hours long while the ones that meet three times a week are about 2 hours long so it's really easy to have long days with just a few classes.
Some studios usually let out early, depending on the day, so that's a good opportunity for me to get work finished up for other classes or get ahead on projects. Or waste time with friends. My computer goes literally everywhere with me now so even when studios are over I'll find a place to sit down and get to work on the million things I have to do. Music on a laptop was a stroke of genius; props to whoever first figured that out.
Once I'm done for the day, I head home and either continue working on stuff that's due the next day or get some time away from the computer by taking a short walk around my apartment complex or meeting a friend for coffee.
Spare time in the evenings is usually spent making dinner with friends to give me time away from a computer screen. On days before final project is due, I'm usually stopping by the Chalet to have black mat board cut and taking up the entire floor of my bedroom to mount projects. Usually around 1AM I finally call it quits for the day and head to bed.
I find that by working consistently on my projects, even when I have lengthy periods of down time that I could use to completely veg out, I manage to stay on top of everything I need to do and want to do without too much last minute panics. It's the night-before-project-is-due-and-your-printer's-out-of-ink-and-suddenly-you-have-no-project-to-turn-in nights that you really want to avoid. The professors are cool and understanding, but they know when you've been slacking.
