The MSU Department of Art welcomes you to a vital and growing 21st Century art and design program.

Physically speaking, the Department doubled its space in 1972 and 1982 by acquiring Briscoe and Freeman Halls on the north side of campus, and in 1997, Stafford Hall has opened its doors to the growing program. Fifty years since these three temporary structures were built as dorms to house the students who fled the famous Old Main dormitory fire, these renovated buildings now house the largest studio art program in Mississippi.

Stafford Hall now holds several classrooms as well as three computer labs to accommodate graphic design. Variously equipped with 100+ Macintosh computers, 15 Windows XP, scanners, and printers; all laboratories, faculty offices, and classrooms are connected via ethernet and wireless access points. Students have monitored access to most computer lab spaces up to 40 hours per week outside of scheduled classes.

Briscoe Hall holds several Studio Spaces including Traditional Photography, a newly created Digital Photography Computer Lab (opening Spring 2007), Ceramics, Sculpture, and Printmaking. It also is home to several faculty offices. Students have near 24-Hour access to key studio spaces for the creation of Art.

Freeman Hall houses Painting and Drawing Studios, a Digital Photography Computer Lab (opened in Fall 2006), faculty offices, Fine Art studios, and the Department of Art Main Office.
