Vicenza, Italy

The summer of 2003 marked the inauguration of a six-week Vicenza, Italy Study Program in conjunction with the Vicenza Institute of Architecture at the University of Florida. The program is open to all students who have completed one year of study in the College of Architecture, Art, and Design. The students take six hours of credit courses: a three-hour Architecture of the Italian Renaissance course, and three-hour Drawing and Sketching course. Two faculty members from the CAAD accompany the students to teach the history and drawing class. The program includes multiple day trips to Rome and Florence. Full day trips include Venice, Milan, Padua, and Verona, with a daylong tour of the villas of Palladio and a day visiting the work of Carlo Scarpa. The studio and classroom spaces are excellent, and there are full-time administrative support personnel in residence. This program is an exciting opportunity for students to experience the Italian culture in a city that is not tourist centered, but that offers excellent access to the significant works of architecture throughout central and northern Italy
